If you’re looking for a hard-working pickup truck that can handle dirty worksites and adventurous weekends with the kids, the Chevrolet Silverado will serve you well. Learn how to choose between the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 from your local Chevy dealership.

Both models give you plenty of customization and building options. They are both available with two-wheel and four-wheel drive, depending on how much control you need over your vehicle. The length and width of the cab can also be adjusted based on your storage needs.

Price

The Silverado 1500 starts out a few thousand less than the 2500. It goes for $48,000 and up. The high-end ZR2 starts from $72,000.

The base model for the Silverado 2500 HD starts at $53,000. On the high end, a fully equipped High Country begins from $74,000

Power and Performance

Towing will be one of your biggest concerns with the Silverado, but both models have the strength to move over ten thousand pounds with ease. The Silverado 2500 HD can tow up to 22,500 pounds when equipped with the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel engine. If you stick with the V8 gas engine, it can still tow up to 16,000 pounds. It has a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The smaller but still mighty 1500 Silverado can tow anywhere from 8,900 pounds to 9,500 pounds, depending on which engine you choose. The base model includes the standard turbo max gas engine, but you can also upgrade to the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine for more power and faster acceleration. It comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission for quicker shifting.

Size

If you want the most truck for your money, the Silverado 2500 HD is the larger of the two. It has more ground clearance for getting over all kinds of debris, a longer wheelbase for distributing the weight, and more storage space. Of course, you can also extend your Silverado 1500 truck bed if you need space but don’t want to upgrade models.

Safety

Both trucks come with a slew of reliable safety features, including an HD backup camera, hitch guidance, forward collision alerts, following distance indicators, and front pedestrian breaking. You can also add the truck bed camera on the Silverado 2500 HD to keep an eye on your equipment.

You can’t go wrong with either Silverado, but one may suit you better, depending on how much you need to tow and how quickly you need to get to your destination. Visit us at Bob Stephen Motors in Manchester, IA to compare these two models in person.
