There’s nothing like a good sandwich: at least we think so. And if you agree, we think you’ll be glad to know about these great sandwich places that you’ll find in (or near) Manchester, IA. Pile everyone from work into your roomy Chevy Equinox and head to one of these spots for lunch today.
Captain & Tenille’s Bistro and Grill
You’ll find this Captain & Tenille’s not on Broadway but at 1110 E Main St. They’re open for lunch from 10:30 am until 3 pm from Mon-Wed and stay open until 9 pm on Thur and Fri. On Saturday, they are open from noon until 5 pm. They are closed on Sundays.
For a great sandwich, try their chicken club, the chicken cordon bleu, or the Southern Charmer (our favorite). They also do a fantastic Hot Hammy, a great grilled cheese your kids will love, too, and the Monti: which is ham and turkey with Swiss and American cheeses, all rolled up in a tortilla and fried. It’s served with raspberry preserves and is an unusual, and fun, delight.
Olive That Deli
Find this spot at 123 E Main St. They open at 10 am every day during the week and close at 8 pm. On Saturdays, they are open from 11 am until 3 pm, and they are closed on Sundays. This is a great spot for selection and price, and you can’t ask for any friendlier service.
Their sub sandwiches are really good here. We recommend the chicken bacon ranch, the salami and ham, or the fantastic turkey and salami. These come as rounds, halves, wraps, salads, or giant wholes! Get any of them with one of six types of cheese, 12 types of spreads, and nine available toppings.
The Bread Basket
At 113 E Main St, the Bread Basket is serving up delicious sandwiches (and other foods) from 8 am until 3 pm from Monday through Friday. They are closed on the weekends. This spot has fantastic home cooked food, and the service here is always polite and friendly. In addition to great sandwiches, they have amazing desserts, so be sure to save room.
What you want to try here is the smoked turkey croissant. The croissant is buttery and flakey, and they spread it with amazing raspberry and pepper preserves. Then they lay on the Muenster cheese, lettuce, and smoked turkey. Get it with a cup of soup or their house or caesar salad. Every day they have a different hot sandwich, too, so be sure to ask.
April’s Downtown Diner
If you’re looking for traditional diner fare, this is the spot. You’ll find them at 118 N Franklin St, and they are open from 6 am until 2 pm during the week, from 5 am until 1 pm on Saturday, and from 6 am until 1 pm on Sunday.
We recommend their Reuben especially. They also do this amazing pork tenderloin sandwich, and the parmesan-crusted tilapia sandwich is amazing. All come with fries and either slaw or cottage cheese with garnishes.
