Back in the day, the recommended interval for oil change was every three months. However, with advancements in engine technology and the quality of motor oil, you don’t need to schedule oil service at your Chevy dealer that often to keep your vehicle in good shape.

How Often Does Your Chevy Need an Oil Change?

Modern vehicles typically only need oil service every 7,5000 to 10,000 miles, which is about twice a year for most drivers. If you drive more than 10,000 miles in a year, then you may need more frequent service to ensure your engine has enough motor oil. Even if you don’t drive very frequently, regular oil service is important since motor oil is less effective when it is old.

Signs You Need Oil Service

You should always keep an eye out for signs that you need oil service. While many drivers rely on the check engine oil light on the dashboard, it’s also important to pay attention to noises, smoke, leaks, and unusual sounds. If your Chevy has excessive exhaust smoke, you smell oil in the cabin of your car, or your engine suddenly sounds loud, it’s time to change the oil in your vehicle.

You should also keep an eye on the appearance of your motor oil. You should manually check your engine oil at least once a month. When you remove the dipstick from the engine, you should be able to see the dipstick clearly. If the engine oil is dark, dirty, or murky, it’s time to schedule service.

What Other Services Can Be Done During Oil Service?

Along with changing out the motor oil in your engine, you can also have a Chevy mechanic perform other routine maintenance tasks during your service appointment. Common services are tire rotation, tire balancing, brake inspection, battery tests, and a transmission flush. You can even have your mechanic run an engine diagnostic to detect minor engine issues.

Ask Your Chevy Dealer: Which Motor Oil Is Ideal for Your Chevy?

As a rule, the recommended oil for your Chevy will be listed in your owner’s manual. However, some vehicles have a few compatible oil types, so you might need to speak with your Chevy mechanic to decide which motor oil is best for your engine performance needs.

ACDelco Gold conventional oil protects your engine from corrosion and friction to ensure. ACDelco dexos1 is a fully synthetic oil that is formulated to resist oxidation, which prevents oil from breaking down prematurely. This oil is also ideal for low temperatures. Mobile 1 is another full synthetic oil engineered with oxidation resistance, low-temperature protection, and high-temperature stability.

For many drivers, scheduling oil service one to two times a year is adequate to protect the health of a Chevy engine. Take advantage of maintenance specials and discounts when you schedule service at Bob Stephen Motors.
