From colorful foliage to plump pumpkin patches, there’s something special in the air come autumn. Fall in love with these fall activities in the Manchester, IA region.
1. Whitewater Park
If you’re looking for a little adventure, the premier Manchester Whitewater Park is the place to be. While it’s open year-round and 24/7, a kayak or tube ride along the Maquoketa River in the fall–surrounded by the beautiful northern Iowa scenery–is truly a sight to behold. A charming gazebo that provides a bird’s-eye view of the park is the perfect spot to enjoy an autumn picnic.
For over 800 feet, you can take advantage of a wet and wild ride with several drops. Soak in the red and golden leaves that paint the landscape while you take the paved trail to begin your exciting journey all over again. You can have an equally good time on land with the Chevy Tahoe Z71. Packed with features like all-terrain tires, air ride adaptive suspension, and ground clearance to spare, this SUV’s made for off-roading glory.
2. Turkey Trot
Celebrate Thanksgiving and its most famous mascot in grand tradition with the annual 5K Turkey Trot Run/Walk. You can register for the roughly one hour and 20 minute-long event in November and compete for up to three winning spots in your age group. The atmosphere’s a bit zany (with live two-legged turkeys on-hand), full of good food and community fun, and it’s all for a good cause.
If you’d rather have your fill at the table, head on over to a celebration of the wild turkey at the National Wild Turkey Federation Struttin’ Tom Chapter’s yearly banquet.
3. Sherman’s Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze
The name says it all. Come partake in a beloved autumn tradition by visiting this destination where you can select your favorite gourd to carve out an iconic jack o’ lantern. Or test your wits and see if you can find your way out of the winding corn maze. Plus, enjoy events that celebrate the spirit of the season like Trunk, Trick, or Treat and live music nights.
Get your haul of pumpkins, corn, squash, and more from 10 in the morning until five in the evening daily. And enjoy the corn maze weekends in the same time frame. During Saturdays in October, bring your flashlights and brave the corn maze at night.
4. Downtown Manchester
The town’s heart picks up a few beats during fall in preparation for the holiday season. Stroll along the streets and marvel at festive décor and great deals from Halloween and Oktoberfest until Christmas. You’ll even be able to dive into a Thanksgiving meal on the town, as some restaurants are open for the big day.
And cap off your fall while revving up for winter in early December when downtown hosts its annual Window Walk and Static Christmas Parade. Choose your favorite float and sip a hot chocolate while you enjoy the jolly atmosphere.
