Are you ready to leave the long winter behind and enjoy the sunshine? If so, you’ll love the Spring Planter Workshop in Elkader and the Wildflower Walk in Vienna. Both events take place in May, and they’re perfect for nature lovers. Those who prefer to stay indoors can attend the Cowboy Poetry evening at Volga City Opera House. Read on to find out more about these three great spring activities near Manchester, IA.
1. Cowboy Poetry
If you’re looking for something special to do this spring, check out the events at Volga City Opera House on 609 Washington Street. A particularly interesting option is Cowboy Poetry with Jan Schiferl, Marty Blocker, and Paul Larson. This show features great country music and interesting storylines, and it is back by popular demand.
Cowboy Poetry takes place on April 29, so there’s not much time left to book a ticket. The doors and bar open at 4:30 pm, and the dinner buffet is served from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. You can expect the subsequent show to take at least two hours because there is an intermission, during which dessert is served.
2. Spring Planter Workshop in Elkader
The Spring Planter Workshop is a great event for people who enjoy gardening. You bring an everyday item in need of upcycling, and the organizers help you to turn it into a beautiful indoor or outdoor planter. The idea is that each participant creates one planter, but you can bring extra items if you let the class leaders know in advance.
This workshop is held at Turkey River Greenhouse in Elkader. The address is 70 Sunburst Lane. It might take you 30 to 40 minutes to get there in your Chevrolet Equinox, but the trip is worth it because you’ll get to spend some time in a beautiful greenhouse and do something creative. This year, the workshop is held on Sunday, May 7 at 1 pm and 3 pm.
3. Wildflower Walk in Vienna
Spring is the best time to see wildflower meadows. On May 7, you can take part in a wildflower walk at New Wine Park. The event starts at 10 am and takes about one hour. The best thing about this walk is that it’s free, so you simply have to jump into your car and drive to 15971 New Wine Park Lane.
It’s important to note that the walk includes some steep sections. It isn’t suitable for small children and people with mobility problems. The organizers recommend that you pack some snacks, which you can enjoy after the walk.
Indiana is beautiful in spring. If you’d like to enjoy the great outdoors, book your spot at the Spring Planter Workshop in Elkader or take part in the Wildflower Walk in Vienna. Alternatively, you can enjoy a live Cowboy Poetry performance at Volga City Opera House. To get there, you’ll need a good car.
